 Brazilian Classical Guitar Workshops

**Participants must have a nylon string acoustic guitar

Celso can teach workshops of beginners to advanced students and master classes. Participants must be grouped with others of like level. 5-15 participants per group. School should provide Celso with background information on each student, capability and what pieces they already play or are working on ( Brazilian or otherwise)

Beginners:
Participants will learn Basic Samba, Bossa Nova and Baião Rhythms

Intermediate:
More complex rhythms and chords for Samba, Bossa Nova and Baião

Master classes and Advanced Guitarists:
If the participants are already preparing a Brazilian piece Celso can help them to perfect it, otherwise, participants will learn more sophisticated techniques for Samba, Bossa Nova and Baião

Kids Concerts

Celso Machado’s original compositions incorporate the percussive rhythms, harmonies and spirit of Brazil to create a remarkably innovative style. Celso involves the fingers and feet of his audience to create the sounds of the rainforest. He has performed for more than 500 schools across Canada, Europe and in the United States.

45 min. + Q&A; Capacity: 500; Suitable for Primary and Intermediate grades
Languages: English, French, Portuguese, Italian and Spanish
Technical needs: small table, 4 armless chairs
Study guides available.
Fee in the Lower Mainland, B.C.: $425 + GST; British Columbia: $550 + GST
Outside B.C.: fee negotiable dependant on number of performances in block booking.

Rainstick and Whistle Making Workshops
Suitable for elementary students, max: 30 kids, one hour.
Fee in Lower Mainland: $250 + GST; Outside Lower Mainland: fee negotiable dependent on number of events in block booking.

Celso will supply materials for whistles and will provide a supply list to school for rain sticks. No whistles will be made if the workshop is held prior to an assembly.

Brazilian Percussion Workshops

Celso Machado can offer a variety of Brazilian Percussion workshops; from body percussion and found object to Samba and Baião, dependent on interest and ability.

5-20 participants, minimum 2 hours, fees dependent upon situation and location.

To book Celso use the contact page to e-mail Celso information on your group or school, number and level of ability of participants, location and dates required, with a contact name and phone number and he will get back to you to work out an event that suits you.

Participants should provide their own instruments, keeping in mind that to learn all the parts, the basic samba requires instruments similar to the surdo - bass drum, small tambourine with no jingles, shaker and agogo bells. Check with Celso prior to workshop for the suitability of other percussion instruments.
