Tracks

1. Bolinhas de Queijo
Theme composed at Cristina's while her mother served delicious cheese balls which we devoured.

2. Caro Amigo Gudin
For our friend, Eduardo Gudin, a great Brazilian composer and musician from São Paulo.

3. Suite: Sambinha, marchinha, baiãozinho
A pot-pourri of our favorite duets: Sambinha and Marchinha de Carnaval are Cristina's favourites and Baiãozinho is one of Celso's

4. Parazula
For Zula: a piece based on Paraguayan rhythms incorporating rasqueado and
simultaneous percussion on the guitar body.

5. Choroso
Dedicated to the great guitarist Jorge Cardoso.

6. Sambalanço
Samba-swing

7. Frêvo Bajado
Frevo is the carnival music of Recife. This piece was written for the Recife painter Bajado

8. Paçoca
Paçoca is a staple of the Brazilian diet based on a paste of Yuca flour mixed with other sweet or savory ingredients. The original melody of the song is for flute. Here it is arranged and interpreted by Cristina on the cavaquinho; an instrument of Portuguese origin which one finds today in distant colonies such as Cape Verde and Brazil. In traditional songs, the cavaquinho is used to accompany the melody. The kanjira used by Celso is a single headed tambourine made of a wood frame and lizard skin from South India.

9. Saudades do Jobim
A tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian composers, Antonio Carlos Jobim.

10. Quebra-Queixo
Originally composed for flute and guitar this piece is named after a Brazilian, jaw breaking, chewy coconut candy.

11. Mistérios do Rio Lento
Mystery of the Slow River: the result of Celso's experiences on the banks of the Garonne (France) and the rio Negro (Amazonas)

12. Ponteado
Music inspired by the drylands of the North East of Brazil. Solo guitar with Jew's harp.
