8. Paçoca
Paçoca is a staple of the Brazilian diet based on a paste of Yuca
flour mixed with other sweet or savory ingredients. The original melody
of the song is for flute. Here it is arranged and interpreted by Cristina
on the cavaquinho; an instrument of Portuguese origin which one finds
today in distant colonies such as Cape Verde and Brazil. In traditional
songs, the cavaquinho is used to accompany the melody. The kanjira used
by Celso is a single headed tambourine made of a wood frame and lizard
skin from South India.
